Yoko Kanno - "Chant 3-Reincarnation" ("Ghost in the Shell" OST)

Twinging the nerves of my ears. Beautiful

Yoko Kanno - "Chant 3-Reincarnation" ("Ghost in the Shell" OST)

Twinging the nerves of my ears. Beautiful

I Monster - "Neveroddoreven" and "A Dense Swarm Of Ancient Stars"

Particularly like their uptempo-music (not much sleep last night), with silly voices and friendly beats, but their slow songs aren't bad either, all in minor, with strange effects and curious lyrics.

DJ Shadow - "Do Androids Dream of Electronic Beats / GI Mix"

Star Wars theme on organ.

Catchy music, soundvibes, "I hear songs that should never end and places I can't comprehend"

Nice mix. 80's classics. Ambient beats. Mac-voices. Throaty techno-voices.

Almost at the end, U.N.K.L.E. and Thom Yorke's "Rabbit in your headlight"... eerie.

Dead Weather - "Horehound" (2009)

Strong rock, punk-ish. The singing sometimes becomes a bit like White Stripes' Jack White during his getting-crazier solo's.

"Birds" has good intro. Is this the single?

Reflection - "The errornormous world"

Strange music. Beats, samples. Half-trippy, dub. Repeating, almost-changing, repeating lyrics.

Made by two Japanese guys sharing their last names (brothers? father-son? nephews? unrelated?)

Becomes a bit tiresome after a while.

12 Angry Men (1957)

Don't think I've ever seen it, but now, finally. And indeed it's a wonderful piece.

There were pieces of dialogue, rather repetitions of dialogue, I did not find too believable, but, for example, how they all literally turn their back on the angry old guy, is a wonderful piece of performance.

I tried to focus on dialogue and shots, getting a feeling for the rhythm, how they used shots, close-ups, &etc to tell this story, but I must admit I did follow the story thoroughly and this kept me from focussing on the "meta-side" most of the time.

Wonderful film.

Frouke Arns - "De camembertmethode"

Wakker. In een bed vol slaap.
Waarin ik gedachten wegwoel, zoals ik vroeger
in zee een gat wilde scheppen. Met meisjeshanden
en vrouwendenken: misschien weer niet genoeg
mijn best gedaan.

Of vermoeden dat ik camembert ben. Zachtrond

Eels - "That look you gave that guy"

100% Eels, as soon as I heard it.

Whether it is this particular moment or whether it holds true in general, but I love the sound of this song. Must look into the album ("Hombre Lobo")

Wall of Arms

Heard on KinkFM, "2meter live" of 2010-01-07. Compared with Arcade Fire, and, soundwise, rightfully so. The same chaotic sound, bit-falsetto voice.

Interesting

"Pirates of the Carribean - At World's End"

some random notes, not for publication

The people have been fighting the lost cause of their lives. People fight when it has no purpose because

  1. they simply do not know any better
  2. it keeps them occupied, otherwise they have to face themselves
  3. fantasy. is that different from #2?
  • quest to betray
  • quest to gain
  • quest for fullfillment
one of the most intriguing ones, because it can never be fulfilled yet will always be sought after.
  • quest for identity.

Ah! Notes for Poste Restante

Pirates Of The Caribbean - At World's End (2007)

Yes, it's over the top. Yes, when I'm serious and harsh I should judge this film not worthy of my time, blabla, &etc &etc.

God curse the critics, hell is being their comrade (sorry Sartre).

Sucker for this kind of film. First, because it's over the top, but (most of it) in a good way. They didn't overdo the slapstick comedy as much as the second part, they did stretch and complexify (is that a verb) the storyline too much, yet at least characters -do- something.

Loved the Ennio Morricone tribute when the East Indian Company and the pirates meet.

How can Barbossa steal Jack Sparrow's "9 pieces of 8"-piece when before it was strongly urged that a pirate Muss Pass It On When He Dies?

The weddingscene; over the top, yet..funny. Shoot me.

Don't blabber on about character arcs. You like sex because you want to climax, be honest and face it. Geez.
