Definitely Pratchett style, but lacking the finesse.

Good Omens (mini series)

Kinda enjoyable, but not very good. Too Neil Gaiman ish. Anti-christ boy defeats his father, the Devil, by simply saying "you were never my father." The whole Good of Intent always winning of the baddies. David Tennant is okay but his snakey devil is becoming a boring character. Also, of course no real drama, nobody really dies, and the usual Gaiman jokes. Only watch when you're hungover.

Technically, the city of Ankh-Morpork is a Tyranny, which is not always the same thing as a monarchy, and in fact even the post of Tyrant has been somewhat redefined by the incumbent, Lord Vetinari, as the only form of democracy that works. Everyone is entitled to vote, unless disqualified by reason of age or not being Lord Vetinari. And yet it does work. This has annoyed a number of people who feel, somehow, that it should not, and who want a monarch instead, thus replacing a man who has achieved his position by cunning, a deep understanding of the realities of the human psyche, breathtaking diplomacy, a certain prowess with the stiletto dagger, and, all agree, a mind like a perfectly balanced circular saw, with a man who has got there by being born… A third proposition, that the city be governed by a choice of respectable members of the community who would promise not to give themselves airs or betray the public trust at every turn, was instantly the subject of music-hall jokes all over the city.

Terry Pratchett - "Snuff"

#... whatever in the Discworld series.

As always, written well, yadayada, ... but I just cannot care. It's more of the same, the jokes don't make me chuckle, the tale is not gripping for me anymore, the writing style... I think I have seen it too often.

It's a nice book. But after more than 25 books, I think I'm a bit Pratchettet out.

I wonder if "the color of magic" or "the light fantastic" are still amazing reads for me.

Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter - "The Long Earth"

Wonderful book. Clear traces of Pratchett, yet muted, which is not a bad thing.

Intriguing thought about an endless amount of worlds, and people discovering how to Step through them.

Good read, though the end seems rather sudden, and it doesn't answer a whole lot of questions.

The Colour Of Magic

"The Colour of Magic" and "The Light Fantastic" together have been made into a 2-episode miniseries.

Not bad, but not exactly enjoyable. The jokes didn't work.

Though they were as faithful as possible in a two-episode timespan, they had to leave a lot out and many scenes seemed rushed; fast little scenes, not really merging into one story. Beads on a necklace.

The actors weren't particularly good. Death's mask (exactly the same as in other film-renderings of Pratchett books) keeps irritating me slightly. The decors were exactly as you expect, nothing fancy, nothing special.

Meh.

Going Postal

Mini-series, basically 1 big film, split in two 90-minutes parts.

Enjoyable. Well done. A bit of a feel-good film.

But as with every Pratchett-film, I'm having a slight sense of discomfort. It is not *my* Pratchett... and I hope it never will.

Don't want no LoTR effect.

Terry Pratchett - "The Carpet People"

A story written by young 19-20 yo Pratchett, co-authored by his 20 years older self.

What is "old" and "new" is, for me, impossible to say. It is definitely a Pratchett, original, wonderful storytelling, and gripping. Not as full of humour as his other books, then again, that might be me.

tiny people, living, fighting, and doing everything civilisation has invented (like lying and torture) in the Carpet, the All, the Everything...Story written by young Pratchett, edited by old Pratchett.Funny, inventive, typically Pratchett-style. Makes you wonder how much of that style has been edited in by the old Pratchett, and how of it used to be there in the original.
