Needed a globally accessible place to jot down notes about books, films, music and the such.
A film like this should stun and flabbergast, mesmerize and lead beyond the places that are never imagined. In this, the sixth Harry Potter film failed.
The score wasn't impressive, though the eerie tingling harp throughout Harry and Ginny's moment in the Chamber of Requirements ("Kamer van Hoge Nood" in Dutch... oh dear oh dear, what was the translater thinking!)
Of course, I was curious to finish it. And it is easy of course, but I do not see a reason to bash it. I must admit though, that the urge to read on, was mostly because I have been reading so much Harry Potter lately. One of the best results of reading these 6 books in a row has been that I was completely immersed in the story.
I particularly enjoyed a few paragraphs of the railway-station in Harry's head when he supposedly died, or is halfway between life and death or --insert-magical-thingy--
Pretending to be dead took a bit too long though. And other details hinted at deus ex machina.
All in all, enjoyable.
Have been slacking, it has been a while. It was ok, though was getting a bit tired of th never-ending Potter vs The World.
This book will be in cinemas within a month, and I am curious to see it. The trailer looked promising.
Unbeknownst to me reading the whole series, someone told me this is the book in which Dumbledore dies.
Alas.
Better keep notes again. Made me focus.
Assuming this was the one which was "a bit out". Good enough, but the actual interesting points were right at the very very end of the story and could've been snugged in in another book.
The whole story of the prophecy seems a bit contrived. First book which made me laugh out loud a couple of times though. The writing is still very good.
Enjoyed the book, though a few things were too scarcily explained: Voldemort and Potter have a wand with a hair from the same unicorn. Bit too much of a coincedence? It is briefly explained that Harry tried a number of wands and he chose the one which "felt best". So ok, we can go along and assuming his ever-existing link with Voldemort, this kind of makes sense.
But suddenly explaining that two wands of the same source can "clash" at which point one of them starts to regurgerate his last spells... nah. Make it a battle of will, power, mind, emotion. This is pulled out of a sleeve.
Quite a lot bigger than the previous two. I wonder whether the success of the books caught up here and made Rowing write so much more. Right now, after a long description of the Quidditch World Championship, we finally seem to start heading towards the actual story.
It's written well, mind you, and it does indulge the reader into the magical world, but the other books seem much more focussed on the story without so much background.
It might be necessary for the story which is to unfold though. We'll see.
Near the end I was afraid she'd pull a deus ex machina, but fortunately it was unfounded. Didn't keep extensive notes. Liked it.
Ok, in all honesty, it still did feel like a minor deus ex machina when Sirius Black turns out to be innocent. There seems to be no way of knowing this beforehand, no possible hints, which does make this feel like a trick. Not one which brings my opinion tumbing down, mind you, but still...
Amusing. Kept notes on each chapter: very short description, how is suspense build up, what suggestions or hints are thrown forward.
Little "jokes" in a paragraph almost always happen in its last sentence. Or rather, after a joke, start new paragraph.
Avoid boring continuing "said bla.... said bla..." by adding a (physical) response or action of that person. ".. said Snape, pursing his lips together".

Saw the trailer of "Harry Potter and the half-blood prince" in IMAX. Reminded me again of actually getting those books and reading them. Especially the few last ones before the films come out.
The films amuse and entertain, so the books must be even better, right?
