Wow!!!

Amazing film!

Superheroes. A by now quite familiar visualisation. Why familiar? Exactly because it is like the comic-books? Or do all the films have something in common?

The story, wonderful! Cliché's, yet none. Stereotypes, yet feelings, changing personalities. Good isn't good, bad isn't bad.

The familiar music (Leonard Cohen twice, Bob Dylan), good juxtaposition.

I must investigate my mind. What is it about.

About changing people? Changing the world? Believes? Masks, or their absense?

Songdog - "A Life Eroding"

Singer-songwriter-ish. Bob Dylan-ish voice, but absolutely no copycat.

Cracker - "Bicycle Spaniard"

It's not exactly the words or his voice, but the slow Spanish guitar and the drunken strings that make this a wonderful song.

Venus In Furs (1967)

Curieuze softcore / grindhouse / arthouse / surrealistisch verhaal waarin James Darren in de ban komt van een femme fatale die weer verschijnt na jaren dood te zijn geweest.

Ouderwetse zoom-effecten, een paar keer bijna-irritante slow-motion, vreemde colorizing (rood, blauw), maar ook met een paar mooie beelden: in de shots van het eerste jetset feestje lijken het bijna foto's die getoond worden, iedereen zit verstild op een bank of staat bijna als een standbeeld. Zeer vervreemdend effect.

Een voice-over in film-noir detective stijl ("Wanda. Her name was Wanda."), maar te zeer over de top om hem makkelijk te negeren. "Stating the obvious" was nog geen schande.

De laatste versie van "Venus is Furs", door tegenspeelster "Rita" (zijn liefje die hij zonder nadenken in de steek laat) gezongen, is prettig. Sowieso de hele score wel.

Nederlands als taal verankerd in de Grondwet

Het was al aangekondigd in het regeerakkoord van 2007, maar vorige week heeft de Nederlandse regering dan toch ook echt besloten dat het Nederlands 'verankerd' wordt in de Nederlandse grondwet. Daarnaast komt er waarschijnlijk een aparte bepaling voor het Fries, maar niet voor de overige minderheidstalen van Nederland. In een column in nrc.next vraagt Rob Wijnberg zich af wat de regering eigenlijk bedoelt met 'het Nederlands'. "Tja, sinds de multiculturele samenleving van de nineties door Pim Fortuyn en plein public passé werd verklaard (dat was echt een eyeopener voor het establishment), is het opeens extreem salonfähig (excusez-moi: bon ton) geworden om als politiek statement fulltime te showen hoe trots je wel niet bent op Nederland – dus qua timing is dit plan niet eens zo shocking". 

Cracker - "One Fine Day"

Listening to a lot of Cracker (I only really know their big hits "Low" and "Big Dipper") and though I am not overwhelmed, it is quite nice.
