Tom Waits - "Brawlers, Bawlers, Bastards"

raw album, dark pub, fat grungy gitars, a broken lightbulb.

cd 1: Brawlers
  • "road to piece" - rough, painful, war, death. angry at Bush.
  • "rains on me" - gospel-ish, but in a really really Tom Waits way. Funny
cd 2: Bawlers

softer, more melodious, sad. waltzing in the rain on a glimmering street
  • "long way home" - soft, rhythmic, I love you baby but I always take the long way home
  • "little drop of poison" - will always love this song. but what changes in his voice after the 1st verse? seems almost like it's in antiphase
  • "Tell it to me" - Cohen-ish. so much that for a moment I thought I recognized it
  • "Little Man" - jazzy, slow
cd 3: Bastards

it's half spoken-word!
  • "What Keeps Mankind Alive" - it is indeed the same song as the one on the Pet Shop Boys' Rarities album! Who was first?! wonderful!!
  • "Two Sisters" - Irish
